BIHL Trust Drives Sustainable Development of Khawa

GABORONE – BIHL Trust has heeded Government’s call for the private sector to help empower local residents in areas identified for their potential for tourism and sustainable business practice. The Trust on Wednesday 4th May 2016 supported Khawa Guest House with a donation of P120,000, handing the cheque to His Excellency Lieutenant General Dr. Seretse Khama Ian Khama, President of the Republic of Botswana, before key stakeholders.

The donation comes after a BIHL Trust delegation visited Khawa in 2015 with the express intention of identifying projects in the Kgalagadi region to support. “In 2015, we visited Khawa on a mission to scout for potential projects in need of our support. Khawa provides a wealth of opportunities for investment, serving as a growing site of tourism and leisure. Our focus was on identifying how we, as a team, and on behalf of the subsidiaries of BIHL Group, can aid in unlocking the potential of such communities as Khawa further,” said BIHL Trust Administrator, Tebogo Keepetsoe.

Khawa Guest House, in the heart of Khawa, is run by the Village Development Committee. The support provided by the Trust will see connection of water and electricity, planting of trees around the guest house, installing of geysers, tiling the interior floors and the provision of kitchen equipment such as industrial stoves, urns and crockery.

BIHL Trust provides support across a breadth of areas. The Trust’s areas of interest include: poverty alleviation; economic empowerment projects; development of human resources through education and training; social welfare services, including youth development; public health; public recreation including sports; rural development and conservation of the environment. Each and very projectt he Trust undertakes is centred on sustainable practice and long term impact on the local community.
