In alignment with their multi-year commitment to nurture, cultivate and support education and skills among Batswana, the Nation’s leading insurance operation, the Botswana Insurance Holdings Limited (BIHL) Group through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) vein, the BIHL Trust, sponsored P250,000 towards the Maru-a-Pula Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Scholarship programme on the 18th of June 2019.

The Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) Scholarship programme marks its 9th year running with over 1.5 million donated scholarships and over 30 students aided. Botswana Life Insurance Limited CEO, Mr. Ronald Samuels, who shared the news of the sponsorship before teachers and students at the school, said: “The BIHL Trust has remained proud partners of the Maru-a-Pula OVC Scholarship Program over the years. This programme underpins the empowerment and equipment of Batswana with quality knowledge, skills and opportunities that will essentially contribute towards our national socioeconomic development. Through our partnership, we are able to play our part in offering this prestigious opportunity to financially challenged students who exhibit remarkable scholarly brilliance. Thus, making a true and lasting impact in their lives which is what the BIHL Trust is all about.”


The BIHL Trust was established in 2007 with the purposes of positively impacting and uplifting communities across Botswana through positive and sustainable development initiatives. The MaP OVC programme is an initiative aimed at academically gifted, underprivileged children the opportunity to receive a good education, skills development and opportunities through Maru-a-Pula School. To date, the Trust has invested over P1 million in the OVC programme.


Concluded Samuels, “We have a responsibility to ensure that future generations are given every opportunity to be educated and supported in any and every way. The future of these students is the future of this Nation and ultimately this continent. They play a pivotal role in continuing our story of African success and the opportunity to partake and make a lasting positive impact in their legacies is the ultimate reward for us as the BIHL Trust.”
