BIHL Thomas Tlou Scholarship

Professor Thomas Tlou is a renowned historian and educationalist, having left an incredible legacy amongst Batswana. Professor Tlou, born in Gwanda in the then southern Rhodesia in 1932 was the first born son of Mangisa Malapela Tlou and Moloko Nare.

The BIHL Trust actively supports the heritage of Botswana and as such, recognised the significant role which our eminent historian Professor Thomas Tlou played and continues to play in our lives through his works.The BIHL Trust aims to carry forward the rich heritage and legacy he left through this scholarship.

The Scholarship will benefit talented young Batswana with aspirations to pursue postgraduate studies in any discipline aimed at contributing to Botswana's socio-economic development. With this scholarship, BIHL Trust has chosen to help in education development as a way of carrying on the historian and diplomat's work in the sector.

Four Scholarships have been awarded for this year and the Trust will in the future have four students enrolled at any given time. So within 2013, the Trust will have six recipients enrolled under the BIHL Thomas Tlou Scholarship. The Trust will spend a total of P 450, 000.00 to sponsor the six students in the 2013 academic year.
