The engagement celebrated the latest winners of the national competition, and marked the culmination of a successful three-year partnership between the BIHL Trust and MoBE.
Launched in 2021 through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the National Essay Competition aimed at enhancing literacy, critical thinking, and writing skills among Standard 6 and Standard 7 learners across Botswana’s public primary schools. This year’s competition showcased the remarkable talents of students, culminating in the announcement of the top three National Winners:
- 1st place: Kago Tawana, Mabele Primary School, Mabele
- 2nd place: Osi Oziel Motau, Boswelakgomo Primary School, Selibe Phikwe
- 3rd place: Seabe Samoka, Gumare Primary School, Gumare
The competition, which started with school-level entries and progressed to District and National levels, saw participation from 21 schools. A panel of expert judges, in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic Education, rigorously assessed the submissions. Through the competition, the Trust fosters critical literacy and writing skills in young learners, equipping them with essential tools for academic and personal growth. By encouraging thoughtful expression and creativity among students, the Trust not only nurtures future leaders but also invests in the nation's long-term socio-economic development. This commitment reflects the BIHL Trust's broader mission to enhance educational excellence, promote inclusivity, and empower communities to thrive for generations to come.
Said the BIHL Trust Trustee, Esther Kanaimba-Senai, "This competition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to improving livelihoods and building legacies. Through education, we are shaping tomorrow's leaders and innovators. Each essay is not just a reflection of a student’s thoughts, but a dream waiting to be nurtured."
The Ministry of Education and Skills Development also expressed gratitude for the support from the BIHL Trust. Education Director, Rapelang Bogatsu shared, “The National Essay Competition reflects the powerful impact of collaboration between the private sector and Government in enhancing education. Our shared dedication to educational excellence is setting new standards for Botswana’s future.”
